Little Parachoc®

Little Parachoc® is a gentle stool softener that contains liquid paraffin for the medical treatment of constipation.

It works by gently lubricating the bowel wall and softening the faecal mass. This makes the stool easier to pass and helps children achieve bowel movement.

Little Parachoc has a pleasant chocolate vanilla flavour and can be mixed with cold milk, cold flavoured drinks and yogurt.

Available in:
– 200 mL bottle
– 400 mL bottle

Directions

After taking Little Parachoc children must not lie down for at least two hours. This reduces the risk of the paraffin being regurgitated and inhaled into the lungs. Inadvertent inhalation of liquid paraffin can cause serious respiratory problems.

Please refer to the Parachoc Training Diary to assist with managing constipation.

Always speak with your healthcare professional when treating constipation.

Dosage

Every patient has their own individual dose requirement for Little Parachoc.

Adequate dosage is that dose which produces one soft motion without leakage of liquid paraffin. Increase or decrease the daily dose in 5 mL graduations until desired effect is achieved.

Age How Much How Often
1 year – 6 years 10 – 15 mL Once daily
7 years – 12 years 20 mL
Adults 40 mL

Because Little Parachoc is not a bowel stimulant, patients must be aware that it can take up to 4 days for a change in dose to work. Therefore the new daily dose must be maintained for at least that time to assess how effective the change is. Further alteration may be necessary, and similarly a 4 day period should be allowed to assess that change before any further alterations in dose are made.

Caution

If symptoms persist seek medical advice.
